Luke McCarthy, a dedicated public servant with over 25 years of experience as a firefighter, is proud to be a candidate for the Las Vegas City Council, Ward 2, in the upcoming 2026 election. With a profound commitment to community safety and well-being, McCarthy aims to bring his extensive background and leadership to the City Council.

 

Professional Experience:

 

Currently in his 20th year with the Clark County Fire Department, McCarthy has served in various critical roles, including assignments on the Las Vegas Strip, the Haz-Mat Team, and McCarran International Airport. His experience spans three major metropolitan areas, beginning in Atlanta and moving to Arlington County. 

 

As a passionate advocate for first responders, McCarthy has held leadership positions within the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and has been instrumental in fostering connections between elected officials and the firefighting community. He co-founded the Metropolitan Atlanta Fire Emerald Society and the First Responder Franchise Initiative, promoting entrepreneurial opportunities for first responders.

 

Community Involvement:

McCarthy's community engagement is extensive. He has served as a board member for Nevada Child Seekers and holds memberships in several organizations, including the NRA and NAACP. His deep-rooted connections and understanding of local challenges position him as a candidate focused on meaningful change.

McCarthy’s campaign centers on critical issues for Las Vegas residents:

McCarthy’s academic credentials include:

B.A. in Political Science – Trinity College, Connecticut

B.S. in Fire Science Administration (Dean’s List) – University of Maryland

M.S. in Crisis and Emergency Management – University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)

 

He has also pursued additional coursework in Criminal Justice and Fire Service from various institutions.

 

Personal Life:

A devoted father of two daughters, McCarthy is passionate about healthcare access in Nevada, motivated by his personal experiences with cancer. He enjoys a balanced life with his wife, Jennifer, whom he met while she was working as a barista.
